句の認知(recognizing phrases)

句は主語と動詞を持たない単語の集まりである。

1. 前置詞句(prepositional phrase)(前置詞+目的語)

   形容詞句	The girl with blue eyes is my sister.
   副詞句	The cow jumped over the moon.
   名詞句	Before dinner is his time to rest.

2. 不定詞句(infinitive phrase)(不定詞 + 目的語)

   形容詞句	I have a plan to suggest to you.
   副詞句	She came to meet us.
   	He is eager to leave soon.
   名詞句	To visit Paris is her wish.
   	She watnss to visti Paris.
   	Her wish to visit Paris.

3. 分詞句(participle phrase) 形容詞として用いられる。現在分詞と過去分詞が用いられる。

   現在分詞	The boy sitting on the porch is my brother.
   過去分詞	The purse found in the store is mine.

4. 動名詞句(gerund phrase) 名詞として用いられる。

   主語	Eating pastries is her downfall.
   直接目的語	She enjoys eating pastriese.
   主格補語	Her weakness is eating pastries.
   前置詞の目的語	She delights in eating pastries

5. 動詞句(verb phrase) 動詞と助動詞によって作られる。

   He has been invited to speak.

   動詞句は動詞を含んでいるが主語は含んでいない

6. 独立句(absolute phrase) 名詞または代名詞と分詞によって作られる。

   The sun having set, we started home.
